50% Of Twitter Account Talking About Coronavirus Could Be Bots

Coronavirus has unironically become one of the most talked-about thing on the internet for the past few weeks but how many real people are talking about it.

If you have been reading my blog for a while now then you will have seen the post about how the 5G theory was fueled by bots spamming this fake news around the web and it left me questioning how many real people are actually talking about this virus and how many posts are bots. Nearly 50% of posts on twitter that is talking about or has mentioned coronavirus are actually bot accounts used to spread either real or fake news so that more people will see it.

This is not a good thing as bots should not be used to spread fake news around they should be used to automate a process like turning the heating on when it is cold in your home. I think it is about time twitter did some checking on accounts that mention coronavirus so that it can help to stop the spread of fake news. But how do these bots spread the fake news so quickly, well I am glad you asked...

These bots are always crawling through twitter to find relevant posts that mention coronavirus and then they just retweet them so that everyone who follows the account will be able to see the fake news. Twitter could find a way to use this to spread the real news like updates on the lockdown and other relevant important news. These bots are really hard to find as if they are set up properly then they should look like real accounts so that they do not get detected by twitter but you will be able to find them as the only thing they talk about is coronavirus and nothing else.

Hopefully, Twitter will be able to put an end to some of these fake accounts weather the block them or remove them for the near future or at least put a warning on them like this is a bot. Social media platforms will always be filled with fake accounts as it is a massive network for people to share and connect so people are obviously going to find a way around this to spread fake news. The fact that nearly 50% of the accounts that are talking about coronavirus could be bots is just appalling and I think twitter really needs to do something about this to help stop the spread of the fake news so that people do not get mislead on what is real and what is garbage.

Thank you for taking the time to read my blog post and I hope that it took a few minutes out of your day to distract you from all of the awful things that are happening in the world. As always from me...

Stay Safe IFB :)
