YouTube bans 'medically unsubstantiated' content

Youtube has joined Facebook in banning content now as well. Youtube has banned anything that is not medically correct with anything to do with the coronavirus. 

This is a good idea as it will help the spread of the misinformation that is a surrounding coronavirus so that when people are searching for topics that are related to this virus then they will not be brought to anything that is not factually correct. Youtube is a very big online video streaming platform so even if there was just 1 video on there that was not correct millions of people would be able to view it.

Since this virus has started there have been a lot more searches for articles that are have got some authority this means articles or videos that are posted by sites that end with .gov or sites that are from proven sources from other trusted articles. There is a lot of speculation and false reports of cures that they are trying to avoid so that people do not think that they are cured. 

Youtube is trying to put a stop to the misinformation and is trying to put a stop to the rumors as well. I am not sure if banning it is the correct way to go because someone might be talking about the effects that this virus has had on them and then their video will get taken down which is not fair to good content creators that are using youtube as there main source of income. It is a good idea if they manage to pull through and do it correctly, maybe flag a video that talks about coronavirus and then make sure that if the person is talking about coronavirus then they have got links to official articles in the description of the video so people can check the facts. 

I can see this being a problem if they decide to ban anything that mentions coronavirus because this would fall over the content censorship again much like Facebook, it is like the freedom speech online and if they are banning anything that talks about coronavirus then they are essentially stopping the freedom of speech online. Hopefully, they manage to maintain this well and if they do go through and ban anything that mentions the coronavirus then they make sure that they do it properly so that no one is missing out of a source of income.
