A Mass Surge In Surveillance In COVID-19

We all know that the government is secretly spying on us there is no doubt in that but I have seen a surge in the surveillance that has been going on due to the recent lockdowns as the spread of COVID-19 continues.

There are some companies that are using the work environment that they have created in order to spy on its employees and this can be anything from monitoring your webcam to see if you are at work or they have got some program that watches your keystrokes. I do not agree with any of this if the employer is asking you to work from home then they should trust you to do the work and not have to spy on you it is like having your boss watching over you whilst you are at work and you would not agree to that in a normal work environment so why is it any different at home.

By the term surveillance I do not mean that someone is at your door spying on you or peeping through your windows it is a term that can be used to describe data collection so the company or the government can use the data collection to see where you are at and if you are sticking to the lockdown rules. You might say that this is not legal with the new data protection act that came out last year but this is actually legal as if you are not sticking to the rules of the lockdown then it would be classed as a crime and then the government can see the data collected to potentially build a case against you.

You might ask is this all necessary during this lockdown have we not got bigger fish to fry other than the government spying on us and you would not be wrong if you said that. Yes, we have got bigger fish to fry such as a cure for the epidemic but if we do not pay close attention to who has got our data and who is using our data even throughout an epidemic then we might lose track of it and then before you know it everyone knows where you are and where you have been. It is important that we do focus on protecting our data, especially throughout these times. If needs be to make sure you have got a VPN so that if there is someone spying on you then you can use this to spoof the location of where you are at.

Make sure that you are safe online and always keep track of the websites that you are using to see if there data protocols have been compromised or to see if your data is being leaked online. Don't forget to stay safe online as well as inside your home. Thank you for taking the time to read this small article and as always from me...

Stay Safe :) IFB
